Wild Heat in the Wilderness

Wild Heat in the Wilderness

Chapter 1: The Unexpected Encounter

The forest was a labyrinth of emerald shadows, the air thick with the scent of pine and damp earth. Marissa and her daughter, Lila, had ventured deep into the woods for a weekend of bonding—two fierce women seeking solace from the chaos of city life. Marissa, a statuesque brunette with a sharp tongue and sharper wit, led the way, her hiking boots crunching against the underbrush. Lila, a fiery 22-year-old with her mother’s piercing green eyes and a smirk that could cut glass, trailed behind, her backpack slung casually over one shoulder.

'If I wanted to be this sweaty and miserable, I’d have joined a gym,' Lila quipped, wiping her brow with the back of her hand. 'What’s the point of nature if it’s just a giant sauna?'

Marissa shot her a sidelong glance, her lips curling into a sly grin. 'Oh, sweetheart, stop whining. A little sweat never hurt anyone. Besides, it’s good for the soul—or at least the ass. Keeps it tight.'

Lila rolled her eyes but couldn’t suppress a laugh. 'You’re impossible, Mom. If I didn’t know better, I’d think you dragged me out here to flirt with squirrels.'

Their banter was interrupted by a low growl echoing through the trees. Both women froze, their instincts kicking into high gear. Marissa’s hand went to the knife at her hip, her eyes narrowing as she scanned the surroundings. Lila stepped closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. 'What the hell was that?'

Before Marissa could answer, a massive dog—a German Shepherd with a coat like midnight—burst through the foliage, its teeth bared but its eyes more curious than menacing. Behind it emerged a man, rugged and raw, his prison jumpsuit torn and dirt-streaked. His name was Cade, a convict on the run, and the sight of him sent a jolt through both women—not of fear, but of something primal, electric.

'Well, damn,' Cade drawled, his voice rough as gravel, a smirk playing on his lips as he eyed them up and down. 'Didn’t expect to stumble on two goddesses in the middle of nowhere. You lost, or just looking for trouble?'

Marissa didn’t flinch, stepping forward with a glare that could melt steel. 'Trouble’s my middle name, convict. But I don’t recall inviting you to the party. What’s your deal—escaped from the clink and thought you’d play Tarzan?'

Cade chuckled, scratching the dog’s head as it sat obediently at his side. 'Something like that. Name’s Cade. This here’s Shadow. We’re just passing through, unless you’ve got a better idea.' His gaze lingered on Marissa’s curves, unapologetic and hungry.

Lila crossed her arms, her smirk matching her mother’s. 'Oh, we’ve got ideas, jailbird. But they don’t involve charity cases. You think you can just waltz in here with your mutt and charm us? Keep dreaming.'

Cade’s eyes darkened, a spark of challenge igniting. 'Dreaming’s exactly what I’m doing, darlin’. And trust me, it’s a hell of a lot dirtier than this forest.'

The tension crackled like a live wire, the air between them charged with unspoken desire. Marissa felt a heat coil low in her belly, her skin prickling under his stare. She wasn’t about to back down, but damn if his raw, unfiltered edge didn’t make her pulse race. Lila, too, felt the pull, her breath hitching as she caught the way Cade’s muscles flexed beneath his tattered shirt.

'Keep talking, tough guy,' Marissa purred, stepping closer, her voice dripping with defiance and something hotter. 'But if you’re gonna play, you better bring more than pretty words. We don’t break easy.'

Cade’s grin widened, predatory and promising. 'Oh, I’ve got plenty to bring. Question is, can you handle it?'

Their words were a dance, sharp and teasing, but the undercurrent was undeniable. The forest seemed to close in around them, the world narrowing to the heat of their bodies, the challenge in their eyes. Marissa’s fingers twitched, itching to touch, to test. Lila’s smirk faltered, her gaze flicking to Cade’s lips as her own parted slightly. They were on the edge of something wild, something untamed—and as Cade took a step closer, the promise of an explosive collision hung heavy in the air, ready to ignite.
